WHO CAN APPLY FOR SCHENGEN TRAVEL INSURANCE?

 

Any individual between the ages of 90 days to 70 years, who wishes to travel to a Schengen country for business or tourism can apply for Schengen travel insurance. This plan is not applicable for students or immigrants. Students can avail a Student Travel Insurance for the same.

 

THE POLICY TERM OF SCHENGEN TRAVEL INSURANCE –

The policy term is from 1 day to 180 days, depending on your Visa requirements & trip days. The cover applies to the insured from the moment his outbound flight starts till he lands back in India.

 

SOME FEATURES AND INCLUSIONS OF SCHENGEN TRAVEL INSURANCE

  1. Emergency medical expenses cover
  2. Emergency Dental expenses cover
  3. Personal Accident and Injuries cover
  4. Accidental Death cover
  5. Baggage Loss Cover
  6. If the baggage is delayed for more than 12 hours since check-in, then necessities like clothes, toiletries, etc. will be replaced
  7. Passport Loss cover
  8. Loss of travel documents cover
  9. Flight delay and cancellation cover
  10. Trip delay or cancellation cover
  11. Personal Liability cover
  12. Home Insurance for the home in India – a cover of up to Rs. 1 lakh
  13. Repatriation of mortal remains of the insured, and reimbursement of expenses in case the funeral is conducted in the visiting country
  14. Emergency evacuation of the policyholder

 

WHAT ARE THE EXCLUSIONS OF SCHENGEN TRAVEL INSURANCE?

 

Some of the exclusions of a general Schengen Travel insurance plan are as follows –

 

  1. Certain pre-existing illnesses
  2. No cover for high-risk activities like extreme sports, aqua sports, stunts, skydiving, bungee jumping, etc.
  3. No protection if traveling to a war-affected country
  4. No cover if traveling to a country currently under the effect of natural calamities
  5. Self-harm or self-inflicted injuries, suicide or attempt to suicide are not covered

 

RIDERS –

Many Schengen insurance providers have started offering riders as additional insurance at higher premium prices. Some of the riders include –

 

  1. Extreme sports rider – This covers any liabilities arising out of insured participating in extreme activities and sports like skydiving, bungee jumping, etc.
  2. Natural calamities rider – If any natural disaster like floods, tsunami, earthquake, etc. strikes the visiting country, expenses towards evacuation and transfer of the insured will be covered by the policy.
  3. Pre-existing illness rider – Taking into account the rise of people suffering from a host of pre-existing illnesses, insurers have started including many pre-existing conditions under the policy through specific pre-existing illness riders.
